Engineering Technician

This position is responsible for activities associated with Central Engineering Project Management. Under direction from Project Manager and Mechanical Design Engineers, the Capital Project Assembly Technician will be responsible for the build, wire, plumb, and debug of mechanical and electrical components, as well as building custom factory automation systems. The Capital Project Assembly Technician will work with a variety of machinery such as roll form, cut-off presses, conveyors, packaging equipment, air compressors, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment, servos, hand tools, and building equipment. In addition, this individual must be able to fabricate and assemble parts from drawings, sketches, or verbal instructions.

Critical outputs of this role are:

  • Implement cost-effective and on-time equipment builds with the aim of improving safety and reliability.
  • Discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, engineering, suppliers, and customers.
  • Assist with development, testing, and evaluating different theoretical designs.


  • Read, interpret, and follow assembly drawings to determine assembly component parts and proper build sequence.
  • Work with team to perform the final assembly of large production systems. Test and debug systems before final assembly. 
  • Partner with Project Managers, Mechanical Designers, and Electrical Engineers to solve technical problems to provide the customer with a complete and functional system. 
  • Demonstrate high degree of knowledge in fittings, bearings, gears, shafts, machined parts, and lubrication.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems; making adjustments as necessary.
  • Document changes made to machines, fixtures, or tooling during installation, debug, or normal operations.
  • Safely utilize machine shop and welding equipment. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge in metal forming machines, roll form, die setup and changeover procedures.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner; use proper lock-out procedures during machine adjustments. Wear required      personal protective equipment (PPE) and make certain that all safety equipment is in proper working order.
  • Actively participate in communication and positively influence WAVE culture.
  • Some travel is required. Estimated 15% as necessary; project dependent. Participate or lead machinery installations on-site.
  • Provide excellent workmanship to ensure that assemblies meet safety and quality standards.
  • Rework and/or repair assembled equipment according to engineering specification changes.
  • Perform reversed-engineering tasks on assembly.

Desired Experience

  • Able to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Proficient in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical components.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly in both individual and team environments. 
  • Ability to use critical thinking to solve problems and develop new and creative ideas.
  • Excellent attention to detail and self-motivation skills.
  • Ability to bring concerns and problems to the attention of the team.
  • Exhibit mechanical aptitude and three-dimensional visualization capability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to lift a maximum of 40 pounds. 
  • Able to stand 8-10 hours per day.
