SUMMARY: The Area Production Manager is primarily responsible for the development, coordination, leadership and continuous improvement of designated work areas. This position empowers hourly workforce to accomplish 100% quality, responsiveness, production, customer service and safety in a team-based environment. Key position results include but are not limited to, equipment is staffed and running safely and efficiently; timely performance evaluations; interaction management procedures are followed; and continuous improvement initiatives are implemented and tracked. A successful candidate is an organized, analytical, problem-solver with the ability to work efficiently and effectively with other functional areas to meet or exceed quality and delivery requirements.

• Manages performance evaluations, interaction and disciplinary process.
• Manages staffing and scheduling (including overtime and vacation).
• Assists teams (including maintenance and engineering) with continuous improvement initiatives (driving safety, quality and process efficiencies).
• Manages goal setting, tracking and communication.
• Identifies training needs and coordinates cross-training opportunities.
• Acts as facilitator between operations support teams and other departments.
• Assists sales, Production Manager and Production Coordinator in expediting critical orders.
• Assists quality and technical services in resolving quality issues - customer claims, corrective action as assigned by technical services and quality department.
• Participates in safety meetings, investigations and audit reporting to superintendent.
• Serves on Safety Steering Committee and provides support and direction for Safety Coordinator.
• Manages reporting verification - daily production, daily maintenance downtime – report root cause analysis, daily call off, and safety audits.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Highly skilled in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint and Excel
• Strong oral and written communications skills
• Strong knowledge of equipment capabilities and steel processing
• Technical knowledge with the ability to communicate with operators, engineers and maintenance
• Ability to delegate and promote team growth
• Excellent analytical, leadership and interpersonal skills
• Highly motivated self-starter that is adept at taking initiative

Education/Training Required:
• Four year degree or equivalent
• Minimum of 6 years in steel processing
• Minimum of 4 years in a leadership or management roll
