Responsibilities

Worthington’s Innovation Team helps to define and drive profitable and sustainable growth strategies for the company.  As part of the Research & Development group within Corporate Innovation, our Engineering Strategist will work at the intersection of technology and business strategy. The position supports both the Innovation team and technical staff within Worthington’s business units to identify technology solutions and provide data-driven recommendations. The responsibilities associated with this role are outlined below.

Summary

  • Provide technical support to strategic business projects. Activities include technology research as well as competitive and IP landscape analysis.
  • Provide technical support to product development projects. Activities include engineering consulting, test program development, technical design reviews, patent searches, and identification of outside technical resources, such as subject matter experts and test laboratories.
  • Track emerging trends in strategic technology areas and synthesize their implications to the business. Example technology areas include process automation, additive manufacturing, alternative energy, battery technologies, carbon fiber, and electrification.
  • Assist in the tracking and documentation of Research & Development group initiatives.

  • You have a history of quickly building trust among both technical and business personnel. 

Desired Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering degree) with 2+ years of work experience
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing projects with internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-starter with comfort in ambiguous situations
  • Capable of juggling several assignments at once
