The Billing/Electronic Health Record (EHR) Coordinator serves as the Medical Center’s point person for assisting with the ongoing success of the Worthington Industries’ Medical Electronic Health Records (EHR) and billing system.  This includes collecting data about EHR concerns, triaging those concerns, working with appropriate resources to troubleshoot the concerns and reporting solutions.


This position will have the responsibility to proactively evaluate technical enhancements and to provide solutions to technical or process issues, guiding to best practices and process improvements. Also responsible for analyzing physician and other non-physician documentation contained in assigned patients electronic health records to determine the first listed and all secondary diagnoses. Utilizes billing software applications (including online references or hardcopy coding manuals) in the assignment of ICD-10/PCS codes and CPT-4®/HCPCS procedure codes. Also, utilizes coding guidelines established by the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), ICD-10/PCS - International Classification of Diseases, CPT - Current Procedural Terminology, AAPC – American Academy of Professional Coders, AHIMA – American Health Information Management Association.

  • Provides education and training on coding and compliance issues to physicians, non-physician providers and staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Navigates the Electronic Health Record and other computer systems in determination of diagnoses and procedures to be coded.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable coding and reimbursement Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
  • Audit and monitor the daily, weekly, monthly and annual compliance of the software application.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for benefit team and healthcare insurance provider
  • Main point of contact for Workers Compensation/Disability claims adjudication
  • Responsible for accurate and timely coding updates
  • Timely Electronic Health Record/Practice Management System issue resolution
  • Provides accuracy report processing
  • Maintain client confidentiality and function within HIPAA regulations.
  • Provides technical support and guidance on coding and compliance issues to our locations that provide clinical services
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
Desired Experience
  • Proficient in working on computer programs (Microsoft Office & Electronic Health Record systems)
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and coding, CPT, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, & modifiers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical & problem solving skills
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently
  • Insurance contracting and negotiations
  • Ability to coordinate work activities and manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • CPC or CCS Certification/credentials through AAPC and/or AHIMA
  • On the job experience 2 to 3 years of medical coding/billing
Associates or equivalent
