Plant Engineering Manager

Summary

Responsible for engineering support of facilities and all manufacturing/processing equipment.

  • Works closely with the operations manager, plant superintendent and maintenance manager on a daily basis to identify operational improvement opportunities.
  • Oversees, assists and prioritizes work of an engineering staff of 8 performing functions of mechanical, electrical/controls engineering, capital improvements, project management, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement related to quality/process.
  • Oversees and executes strategic initiatives related to equipment improvements and automation.
  •  Serves on management review team providing input and guidance for issues on safety, quality and productivity.
  • Directs or gives guidance to events such as fire, utility interruption, oil spills and any other anomaly having adverse impact to plant operations.   

Responsibilities

  • Researches, analyzes, recommends moderately complex manufacturing methods with current technology to improve productivity.  Works with corporate resources to determine best manufacturing methods for new products while understanding plant constraints.
  • Provide project management of various jobs to include scope development, request for bids, procurement and implementation.
  • Mentor, develop and provide training recommendations of technical staff
  • Provide engineering insight for continuous improvement, upgrade and repairs to facility and equipment.
  • Works with EHS to develop safe work practices of plant employees and outside contractors.  Analyzes, researches, sources and integrates new safety equipment 
  • Assist in the identification and procurement of critical spare parts
  • Direct outside contractors performing various projects and repairs
  • Provide information regarding, codes, regulations and specialized expertise for support of process requirements.  Oversee and assist in the administration of regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor utility usage and reliability, interface with utility companies as necessary.

Desired Experience

• Above average interpersonal and writing skills to interact and communicate effectively at all levels of management

• 5+ years if Industrial Manufacturing Experience

• Possess character, integrity and demeanor befitting the management position

• Capable of managing a technical staff of varied disciplines; mechanical, electrical, industrial, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical.

• Knowledge of outside technical resources required to supplement in house abilities

• Knowledge of local, state and federal codes and regulations impacting the facility

• Able to assess various business data and information

• Knowledge of plant level safe work practices and procedures
