Summary

As a Quality Engineer, this role is a key member of our Consumer/Retail Products group that works closely with team members from Engineering, Purchasing and other departments to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements and corporate quality standards. Key roles will be working on new product introductions, overseeing product improvements, and leading continuous improvement activities across all retail and commercial areas of the business. 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in new product design development teams with focus on Advanced Quality Engineering activities.
  • Lead or participate in development, review, vendor on-site audits and approvals of PPAPS for consumer retail products.  These may include new products and/or improvements to current products
  • Ensure compliance to governing regulations and internal specifications related to consumer products.
  • Responsible for supplier regulatory compliance review related to consumer products.
  • Work closely with internal teams (R&D, Advanced Operations, Plan Quality and Purchasing/Sourcing) to resolve consumer product and supplier quality problems.
  • Develop methods to track and report on consumer product and supplier quality problems.
  • Technical quality liaison between plant and supplier for supplier quality issues.
  • Participate in continuous (product) improvement activities.
  • Lead resolutions to quality issues related to consumer product non-conformance reports.
  • Evaluate trends with consumer feedback and lead resolution to related quality issues with design engineering or sourcing teams.
  • Prepares and evaluates Capital Appropriation Requests (CARs) for feasibility and confirm it meets cost requirements.
  • Lead methods development with consumer product reliability testing (lab).
  • Coordinate the activities for reporting the division’s quality performance metrics (PPM System).  Parameters for the PPM System include Supplier, Rework, Scrap & Customer performance data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivelant experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Preferred Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
  • Knowledge of APQP process and methods (PPAPs, Control Plans, FMEA, SPC, MSA, Root Cause Analysis, Mistake Proofing/Poka Yoke).
  • Knowledge and ability to apply statistical tools and methods to problem solving and trouble shooting in a quality or process improvement arena.
  • Advanced knowledge of audit methodologies related to process audits and quality systems audits.
  • Knowledge of CPSC, DOT, TC, EN, UL, CUL, CSA, and other domestic/international consumer product regulations.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles.
  • Ability to fabricate custom test fixtures.
  • Ability to design and fabricate testing and manufacturing solutions.
  • Ability to use and instruct others in the use of Quality improvement tools; (i.e. APQP, SPC, CP, FMEA, MSA, ANOVA, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, etc.)
  • Strong leadership, organization and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with multiple levels of personnel/departments within the organization.
  • Ability to exhibit a positive, energetic approach to teamwork.
  • Ability to advocate product excellence and quality.
  • Ability to respond to the urgent needs of the team, with proven track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and learn quickly.
  • Travel is approximately 10-20%.
