Regulatory Compliance/Quality Engineer

Summary

The Regulatory Engineer assists in overseeing Worthington Industries’ Compliance Program within the Consumer Products Business Unit.  The role will primarily be responsible for the research and interpretation of state, federal, international and customer standards. Once obligations are determined, this position will lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement action plans to achieve compliance.  The Compliance Program exists to promote compliance and ensure adherence to laws, regulations, customer requirements and company policies.

This role also involves classical Quality Engineering functions, regulatory auditing, document control, and records maintenance.   A successful candidate will be able to use logic and reasoning to provide informed analyses, findings and recommendations. This will require advanced organizational and communication skills while maintaining a strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Interpretation and reporting of standards and regulations
  • Compliance review of packaging, labels, warnings, instruction, cylinder markings
  • Provide regulatory and compliance subject matter expertise to the New Product Development (NPG) group.  Assist with identifying and interpreting applicable regulations regarding performance, packaging, transportation and other external or internal requirements
  • Provides sales department with technical support for customers in regards to regulations in order to obtain and/or maintain business.
  • Audits manufacturing facilities to ensure they’re meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Provides supplier auditing, facility cost reductions, facility technical support etc.
  • Monitor regulatory reporting requirements to ensure timely and accurate submissions of all required filings
  • Monitor and maintain up to date knowledge on regulatory changes.  Proactively communicate regulatory changes with cross-functional groups to ensure risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Provide guidance and leadership for the Consumer Products regulatory strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Experience

  • Knowledge of regulatory codes – DOT, TC, CPSC, ASME, UL, CSA, ETL, ISO standards
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including communicating internationally. Will communicate with different nationalities in the English language and be required to strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience interfacing with regulators and other governmental stakeholders, as well as internal leadership team
  • Good technical understanding of metallurgy, quality systems, and auditing practices
  • Possess strong organization skills
  • Strong MS Office knowledge
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills
  • Detailed oriented

  • Bachelors Degree - Engineering
