Summary

The Sr. Accountant will support and guide corporate functional departments with all aspects of financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis.  The position will be responsible for the more complex areas of accounting that require technical expertise and the application of sound judgement, often in support of strategic business initiatives. In addition, this position will play a lead role in technology and transformation initiatives. This position will work closely with departmental accountants and interns, occasionally in a leadership capacity. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, independent, self-starter with strong communication and technology skills. This is hybrid work model and will come with alot of autonomy. 

Responsibilities

  • General Ledger – Applying professional accounting principles, responsible for more complex accounting activities related to timely maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resulting managerial reports and financial statements.  Reviews general ledger accounts and communicates or completes correcting journal entries.  Assist with resolution of data integrity issues between financial systems.  Works in cross-functional teams (Finance, IT, etc.) to implement system enhancements to improve processes and create efficiencies.
  • Research & Analysis - Performs analysis of balance sheets, income statements and cash flows for Corporate and other Special Purpose Entities as well as departmental SG&A expenses.  Analyze areas requiring a high degree of estimates and subjectivity (bonus plans and targets, healthcare trends, workers comp, etc.).  Provide value-added insights to Corporate department leaders regarding operating results, trending, benchmarking, etc.  Researches proper treatment of accounting topics and prepares recommendations.
  • Financial Reporting – Applying professional accounting principles (GAAP), prepares more complex internal management financial reports and statements.  Provide insights to Corporate department leaders highlighting performance compared to plan and forecast, as well as identifying trends and potential impact to financial performance.  Assist in the preparation or review of reporting packages to other departments (Tax, Treasury, Risk Management, etc.).
  • Financial Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting – Using trends and analysis, designs and maintains complex budgets and forecasts and makes recommendations for review by Corporate Finance and departmental personnel.  Works closely with Corporate personnel in developing budget and forecast assumptions; monitors changes in assumptions throughout the fiscal year.
  • Technology – Strong desire to learn and incorporate new technology into processes to facilitate continuous improvement. Act as administrator for Corporate Accounting systems (ex: Blackline).
  • Auditing - Assesses internal controls/risk assessments and makes recommendations.  Completes and/or reviews External Audit schedules and ensures completeness and accuracy.
  • Leadership - Leads or supervises interns and junior accounting staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Experience

  • Advanced understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Intermediate understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance Standards (SOX)
  • 3-5 Years of accounting/finance work experience
  • Prefer Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Prefer Masters Business Administration (MBA)
