Summary

The responsibilities for the CAD Designer include but are not limited to providing support to engineers & sales team by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches and diagrams. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacturing. Makes copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes to database. Makes simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to engineers or supervisor. Has a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology. Possesses mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.

Responsibilities
  • Determines design drawing scale, performs complex mathematical calculations and prepares layouts for detailing.
  • Uses individual judgment and discretion to determine the correct design bundling that will optimize the number of parts per coil of steel.
  • Implements required changes to resolve production problems and improve product performance and reliability.
  • Makes independent decisions on the suitability of the design using knowledge and characteristics of specified product materials and production processes.
  • Prepares a variety of detail drawings, usually from completed engineering sketches or layouts.
  • Determines the best method of material processing of blanks, e.g. dimpling or post weld press operations.        
  • Uses computer aided drafting techniques to perform applicable detailing work as well as standard and some specialized drafting tools and equipment.
  • Makes layout drawings, assist in preparing parts lists, and performs other duties as required.
Desired Experience
  • High School diploma required                                                         
  • One to two years direct CAD related experience for a manufacturer or engineering firm in an automotive environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of all drafting techniques and engineering terminology.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to compute complex and highly statistical specifications.
  • Thorough working knowledge of CAD or design related software(s) Manager.
  • Must be physically able to freely access all areas of the plant and grounds.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed via most efficient means.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Associates or equivalent in Drafting
