Summary

The Financial Analyst is a valued business partner contributing meaningful information to SBU leadership for decision making purposes. This position is responsible for regular and comprehensive analysis of financial reports, forecasts, budgets, etc. providing insight into historical and current results while identifying opportunities for improvements. Serves as the primary financial consultative resource for the sales and operations management teams to maximize profitability and drive business performance. The Analyst will play a key role in business development opportunities. A successful candidate will be able to use logic and reasoning to provide informed analyses and reports. This will require advanced organizational and communication skills while maintaining a strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

As a Financial Analyst, you will work closely with various functions within the Pomona team, mainly our Commercial organization, as well as finance/accounting, supply chain, and operations in a variety of areas including:

  • Facilitate customer pricing meetings with various business stakeholders, reviewing customer/item level profitability, competitive intelligence, and hidden costs impacting the facility.
  • Ensure timely handling of quotes/opportunities that route through the pricing team to meet internal and external customer needs.
  • Prepare data for monthly meetings with our Sales organization to review results, specifically identifying opportunities to improve price and reduce profit leakage.
  • Create new methods for our commercial leaders to view their business and enhance value.
  • Work with leadership teams to support growth plans across various products.
  • Provide analytical support for Pomona Transformation initiatives.
  • Capability to think strategically around our commercial practices and challenge ongoing assumptions leading to improved results for the business.
  • Provide analytical support for various strategic initiatives i.e. new product development
  • Assist with special projects relating to economic research, market or material cost updates, business development initiatives, and market intelligence reports.
  • Assist and enhance the creation of executive level reporting packages for Monthly/Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Ad hoc analysis of financial data and metrics used in business decisions as requested by management
  • Own and enhance the creation of commercial & operational KPIs
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and support relating to non-financial metrics (Safety, Quality, OTD, etc.)
  • Drive completion of annual budget ensuring there is alignment with key stakeholders
  • Key POC/Super User for finance and sales personnel regarding Oracle BI tool. 
  • Responsible for understanding business needs/processes and working with Corporate IT to develop our BI tool to allow for more timely information to business leaders driving improvements to top line and margin.

Desired Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting/finance work experience
  • Bachelors in Accounting/Finance or similar degree or equivalent experience, Masters Business Administration (MBA), CPA, or CFA a plus
  • Project Management experience is a plus
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.  Able to break down complex problems into manageable pieces
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions based on data (some incomplete) and analysis
  • Strong starter and multi-tasking skills
  • Creative thinking and fact-based data collection
  • Working with ambiguity
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Adept at building trusting relationships while motivating/influencing others to adopt new best practices
  • Computer Proficiency – Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, JD Edwards, Oracle BI are useful
  • Excellent communication written, verbal, and reporting
  • Intermediate understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Education

Bachelors or equivalent in Accounting or Finance
