Summary

Worthington Industries is hiring Material Handlers in Porter, IN. At our facility, we process steel for a variety of customers; mainly working with automotive suppliers. Worthington is the largest purchaser of flat-rolled steel behind the automakers and our steel can be found in over 50% of US cars! Here in Porter we offer the following:

  • Starting pay is $16.50-$19 based upon experience plus a shift differential for off shifts.

The primary role of the Material Handler is helping move materials throughout the facility in order for production to move smoothly. We are looking for individuals with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. We provide on-the-job training so if this position is of interest, apply today! 

Responsibilities

  • Moves and stages material as scheduled for optimum machine efficiency.
  • Ensures areas are supplied with parts and removes finished skids to warehouse or paint line.
  • Provides machine support by emptying scrap tubs and ensuring lines are cleared of finished product.
  • Packages finished product for shipment.
  • Follows bill of material in order to match product with proper packaging and skidding.
  • Performs multiple tasks to ensure ongoing machine operation.
  • We will train you on how to move material around plant using a forklift and/or crane for producing, finishing, packaging, or shipping the customer product.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Desired Experience

  • Mechanical aptitude a plus, but not required
  • Competent in basic math and computer skills
  • Will understand and follow the quality policy and procedures
  • Ability to recognize quality issues and problems – detect defects
  • Will be trained on how to read and understand bill of material and or production order
  • Must follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Must have good safety awareness and efficiency skills
  • We will provide OSHA safety training
  • Forklift and crane license is a bonus but not required
  • Must have valid driver’s license
     

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent
