Summary

This Controller position is responsible for our Cryogenics business and is located at our production facility in Theodore, AL. This position is responsible for general accounting duties ulimately leading to timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and Worthington SOX procedures. Additionally, the Controller must apply advanced level interpretations or recommendations relating to specific accounting standards while working independently and in conjunction with our management team to drive the business forward. The ideal candidate will be able to use logic and reasoning to provide informed analyses and reports. This position requires advanced organizational and communication skills while maintaining a strong attention to detail. 

Responsibilities

  • Maintains complete and accurate general ledger accounts balances and prepares managerial reports and financial statements, reconciles sub-ledgers to general accounts, and corrects journal entries.
  • Consults with Business Director and Commercial Manager on product pricing.
  • Compiles and prepares complex budgets/forecasts and makes recommendations for review by financial, sales or operational management.
  • Evaluates asset trends, inventory progressions and levels and recommends actions.
  • Serves as a liaison between internal/external auditing and assesses internal controls, risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Performs monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial/budget variance analysis, researches proper treatment of accounting topics and prepares recommendations, studies and recommends ways to improve resource utilization, analysis and reconciliation of bank statements.
  • Prepares monthly product-line financial statements.
  • Interprets complex financial statements including balance sheets, profit, loss, and subsidiary statements, prepares and recommends actions in management/financial reports.
  • Develop and maintain monthly management reporting package in a visual, easy-to-understand format; adjusts as needed to reflect current business conditions and priorities.
  • Provides tax data and information to tax department and answers questions related to tax data for sales, use taxes, and personal property taxes.
  • Evaluates the process for determining direct and indirect costs, overhead and material costs, analysis cost variances, and recommends action - including annual review of overhead application model.
  • Responsible for designing, conducting or assisting in documenting moderate planning, modeling and analysis projects; prepares or reviews moderately complex Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR) and post CAR completion reviews; prepares and consolidates a wide range of operating and financial projections for the development of both short-term and long-term business plans.
  • Complete review of and makes recommendations on financial statements, profit sharing, SOX compliance, capital projects, expense analysis, age productions reconciliation, freight quotes, headcount, customer margin, scrap rates, and general operations support with key personnel.
  • Provides weekly projections of month-end results (sales and earnings) and alerts management team to deviations from plan.

Desired Experience

  • Advanced understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance Practices (SOX)
  • Technology/Software – MS Office (including advanced-level Microsoft Excel); Accounting ERP systems (JD Edwards preferred), familiarity with reporting tools (e.g., Tagetik, Hyperion, etc.) 
  • Intermediate to advanced analytical ability
  • Intermediate to advanced problem solving ability
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • 5+ Years of accounting/finance work experience
  • Preference for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Masters Business Administration (MBA)
