Summary

As NPI (New Product Introduction) Buyer located at our Watertown, SD facility in support of Worthington’s Engineered Cabs this role is responsible for all procurement activities related to the purchasing of parts, materials and services for NPI projects. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, analytical, strong communicator capable of multi-tasking with knowledge and application of procurement, ERP, MRP systems in Fourth Shift and Oracle with the ability to apply these skills in order to succeed.
 

Responsibilities

Import/enter demand from requisition into Fourth Shift and Oracle

Review release messages from Fourth Shift/Oracle, generate PO's.

Gather input and forms from Supplier Quality Engineer and Design Engineers for first article/PPAP/PSW

requirements.

Document PSW/PPAP requests on purchase orders that are sent to suppliers.

Follow up with CM's and Design Engineers on part numbers still open in RFQ if they need to be ordered.

Follow up on scheduling change messages in Fourth Shift/Oracle.

Generate and maintain work order status report that provides information on all open purchase orders for a given

work order.  Requested by PM's.

Order vendor tooling from requisitions

Ensure Design Engineer or Project Manager fills out tooling registration form when they send requisition for

vendor tooling and file this information in vendor tooling files.

Request and receive tooling pictures from suppliers.  Once received authorize PO to be PORV'd and PICKed so payment

process can begin.

File tooling pictures, tooling registration form, etc. in vendor tooling information files

Order V-type part numbers from requisitions.

Review and investigate and resolve invoices on hold from Accounts Payable.

Document in Excel file, first article/PPAP/PSW requests made to supplier and document when they have

been received in. 

Receive first article/PPAP/PSW documents from suppliers.  Distribute internally.

Ensure PSW's are signed by appropriate personnel and e-mailed back Supplier.

Review past due on Rainbow report and follow up with suppliers.

Participate and help resolve quality issues.

Generate purchase orders and the first article/PPAP/PSW packet for resourcing activity.

Close Engineering work orders.  Ensure PICKS are complete, costs are in CPMT before closing work order.

Attend PMO status meetings/conference calls.

Assist CM's with sourcing parts or setting them up in Fourth Shift or Oracle.

Attend daily production meeting and follow up on any NPI Buyer issues discussed at meeting.

 

Desired Experience

Desired Experience

  • 1-3 years purchasing work experience in manufacturing environment preferred
  • Preferred CPM/CPIM (Certified Purchasing Manager/Certified Production Inventory Manager)

 

Essential Skills

  • Self-motivated and possesses the ability to complete tasks on-time and with little supervision
  • General negotiation skills 
  • Intermediate analytical and mathematical skills
  • Strong knowledge and experience of Microsoft Excel and Word, Microsoft Access a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret part drawings
  • Knowledge and application of purchasing cost reduction methods
  • Material requirements planning (MRP) system and ERP purchasing system proficiency
  • Thorough knowledge of purchasing terminology and practices

Education

Bachelors in Supply Chain or Logistics
