Position Title:    Design Engineer 2

Reports to:       Engineer Manager

 

Position Summary

The best candidate for this position is a strong team player with the ability to be flexible and adapt. Primary responsibilities include design creation with consideration of customer needs, manufacturing processes, welding requirements, and engineering principles. This position requires a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and interaction with customers.

 

Key Position Results

  • Development of electrical, mechanical and/or non-metallic design content with data based justifications
  • Development of design solutions through a detailed understanding of WIEC manufacturing capabilities and best practices
  • Development and maintenance of technical relationships with suppliers
  • Advanced understanding of GD&T requirements and manufacturing process capabilities
  • Detailed understanding and a technical authority for 5-7 key cab main component design areas
  • Coordination of the purchasing, fabrication, and build of cab prototypes and pre-production units
  • Provides concise and effective technical guidance and communication to customers; builds effective technical communication paths with customers.
  • Ensures designs meet all relevant industry standards and codes
  • Documentation of all design decisions with appropriate justification in design files
  • Translates end-user functional requirements into product specifications
  • Collaboration with internal and external customers to discern best possible design solutions
  • Leads design reviews to gain design direction consensus
  • Leads root cause analyses processes for effective problem definition and development of corrective actions
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates design risks prior to prototype and pre-production builds
  • Compiles accurate and complete design files / records
  • Consistently produces accurate build drawings
  • Able to schedule work and complete work in a manner that supports commitments

Education / Training Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience, with demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge in respective area- including:
    • Ability to effectively launch new design work into production with minimal rework
    • Evidence of clean design files and budget control
    • Evidence of proficiency in performing engineering calculations
  • Proficient with Pro-Engineer, Solid Works or similar 3D modeling software
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
