Applications Engineer

Summary

Worthington Industries is seeking an Applications Engineer for their growing facility in West Warwick, RI.  The Applications Engineer will be responsible for managing engineering projects from beginning to end as well as project timelines and teams, partnering with the lab team and sustaining support for the production lines. Seeking an Engineer who excels at problem solving and communicating well with cross functional teams throughout the plant. The ideal candidate should have prior experience in R&D, strong mechanical design skills utilizing 3D SolidWorks and experience with Materials Specifications, prototyping (3D printing) and idea creation.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Project Management – This constitutes working on Product Concepts (R&D) projects and Product Brief’s (Commercialization) projects.   Writing up project scopes, project timelines and project details to submit for approvals. Closing out with final reports to document the final outcomes and outputs of the project.  
  • Engineering Problem Solving – Must have strong mechanical aptitude and be able to utilize SolidWorks for part design, assembly design and 2D drawing documentation, complete design layouts for tolerance stack-ups and perform FEA’s and execute prototyping for testing.  Will be involved with DFMEA’s and all new product design verification and validation testing.  Expected to perform all pertinent engineering calculations on new designs.
  • Codes and Regulations – Will be responsible to work with Codes & Standards engineering team to ensure all new product designs assigned will comply with regulatory codes and standards, such as NSF, ASME, IAPMO, CE, UL, etc
  • ISO Procedures – Will be expected to follow all internal procedures for completing support work, such as ECO’s for drafting changes and releases as well ESR’s for Lab work to prove out prototype and sustaining engineering functional testing.
     

Desired Experience

  • Two plus years of related experience preferred
  • Proven experience with being detail oriented with a high degree of self-motivation and initiative
  • Software – SolidWorks, AutoCAD, PDM, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project
  • Outstanding communication, organization skills  and strong analytical skills and problem solving skills

 

Education

Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering
