Summary

This position has responsibility for supporting the safety processes. Acts as a point of contact for safety related issues.  Promotes safety awareness with the emphasis on preventing incidents and injuries. Acts as the subject matter expert (SME) for company EHS management system.  Assists with recognizing and assessing hazards in the work place and recommending corrective measures. Works with plant personnel and Corporate EHS to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (OSHA, NFPA, etc.) and implementation of best practices. Assists with managing internal safety systems and completes required reports and notifications. Assists with conducting safety training and coaching as necessary.  The Safety Coordinator will have some responsibility for multiple sites (West Warwick-RI, Baltimore-MD, and North Kingstown-RI distribution center).  

Responsibilities

  • Collects safety related data and input into corporate safety database
  • Coordinates safety activities and performs training
  • Acts as point of contact for any safety related issues
  • Tailors all applicable written model programs to the facility’s needs
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory related laws and standards
  • Participates as a resource to the safety council, ensures completion of minutes
  • Ensures completion of open safety related inspection items and that issues are resolved and communicated
  • Ensures safety related and housekeeping inspections are completed
  • Ensures safety bulletin boards are utilized for written communication
  • Oversee incident investigation process
  • Conducts risk assessments & job safety analysis
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must have solid understanding of safety policies and procedures 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to present material to groups
  • Able to coach, mentor, lead, and influence to create a culture of safety
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Minimum of five years of experience in manufacturing 
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR and working knowledge of OSHA 30 hour general industry
