Summary

Worthington Industries is seeking a Maintenance and Reliability Engineer at our Pressurized Cylinders facility in Westerville, Ohio. The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer will report to the Plant Operations Manager and be responsible for leading overall efforts to improve the safety and reliability of plant assets to world-class standards.  This position will provide leadership, expertise and direction in the implementation of predictive and preventative maintenance and reliability strategies across a 200,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility which includes steel blanking, extrusion, welding, annealing, pressure testing, painting, and packaging.

 

Primary role of the Reliability Engineer: 

To identify, prioritize, and problem solve around asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. This broad primary role can be divided into three smaller, more manageable roles: Loss Elimination, Risk Management and Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM).  The Reliability Engineer (in full partnership with the operations and technical resource teams) develops a plan to eliminate or reduce the losses through root-cause analysis, obtains approval of the plan and facilitates the implementation.  The Reliability Engineer collaborates to lead the team in developing and implementing a proactive maintenance and reliability strategy, supporting the objectives of the facility in order to achieve business goals.

The ideal candidate would have previous experience in an industrial maintenance position within heavy manufacturing, with extensive knowledge of maintenance planning, preventative and predictive maintenance techniques, criticality analyses, TPM, lean principles and other proactive maintenance practices.  The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, self-confidence, and the ability to quickly gain trust while coaching & partnering with peers and technical resources.  The candidate would be able to develop and manage good working relationships with internal departments, and externally with contractors, suppliers, inspectors and customers.  Ideally, the candidate should have demonstrated an extended career, with advancement in maintenance, engineering or reliability management, and have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and a reliability certification such as CMRP.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing leadership, direction and assistance in conducting root cause failure analysis, reliability studies of equipment, developing effective corrective actions, and proactively improving the inherent reliability of a given process.
  • Develops engineered solutions for repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect plant capacity, quality, cost or compliance issues.
  • Performs or manages necessary design work to reduce equipment failure points and mitigate risk.
  • Works hand-in-hand on shop floor with operations and technical resource personnel
  • Assists maintenance and engineering team in developing effective solutions for needed work procedures and standards for the maintenance process itself (i.e. Standard Work for Maintenance Procedures, PM confirmation and refinement).
  • Partners with site management and technical leadership to instill a mindset and culture of reliability.
  • Guides overall effort to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes and utilities.
  • Works cross functionally with engineering, maintenance, operations and other technical groups to reduce equipment failure frequency and severity.
  • Effectively instructs Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations employees on TPM and Maintenance Reliability techniques, concepts, and topics.
  • Professionally and systematically defines, designs, develops, monitors and refines an Asset Maintenance Plan (CMMS) that includes value-added preventive and TPM maintenance tasks, effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems.
  • Analyzes data to determine equipment failures and trends so that effective solutions can be identified and implemented.
  • Through data analysis, recommends adjustments to critical spare parts inventory.
  • Travel approximately 10% for site visits and support reliability initiatives.
  • Assists with equipment documentation and updating drawings, as needed.
  • Project management for reliability improvements of various scale. 
  • Provide mechanical engineering technical support to technical resources as needed.

Desired Experience

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with five (5) or more years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with ten (10) years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment.

Preferred Certifications:

Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP), American Society for Quality Certified Reliability Engineer (ASQRE), Certified Reliability Leader (CRL), Certified Lean Six Sigma Black or Green Belt, IAM Certification or Diploma, Licensed Professional Engineer.
